Breast Enhancement / Lift: FAQ's

Board Certified Michigan Breast Surgery

Are the results from a breast enhancement permanent?

The breast lift is designed to recreate the appearance of a more youthful breast. But like all youthful breasts, they do eventually age. This process might be exacerbated by childbirth and breastfeeding, or simply by the natural aging process. Most surgeons recommend that patients considering pregnancy wait to have a breast lift until they've completed their childbearing.

What risks are involved in a breast lift?

Most of the risks of breast lifts are general risks associated with any surgical procedure, although the procedure also has some potential complications specific to the breast lift.

Additional risks unique to the breast enhancement procedure include the possibility that the areolas (the pigmented area around the nipples) will appear uneven, and the potential for excessive scarring, which is discussed in more detail below.

Will there be scarring?

Yes. The breast enhancement procedure will leave some scarring along the incision sites. This scarring will generally follow along the natural lines of the breast, however, and the extent of the scars will depend largely on your body's ability to heal. Scarring is usually more extensive in smokers.
